Steven Higgins has been in training for a life as a professional sculptor since the age of 11. At age 15 he got a taste for competition with his competitive woodcarving skills as he was able to participate in Crescent City, California’s carving fundraiser for an all girls catholic school. The many adoring fans solidified his conviction that yes, he had indeed chosen the correct career path.

The years have passed and Steven in now 32 years old with a daughter of his own, 2 1/2-year-old Haddie, to cheer him on as well. All this support has seemed to help as Steven is no stranger to the podium in many of the carving events where he competes.

This year alone has yielded a first place medal for Carvers’ Choice as well as top auction price in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He also won First Place Judges’ Choice at the Ezo Cup in Hokkaido, Japan, and First Place Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and Carvers’ Choice at the U.S. Open Chainsaw Sculpting in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Steven has recently returned from eastern Germany, where he was invited to demonstrate his art in a live sculpting symposium with several other international sculptors. He is honored to participate in this year’s Kootenai Country Montana Chainsaw Carving Championship in Libby, Montana.
